Scope of care

THE BALANCE provides a fully private residential treatment model dedicated to one client at a time. Its psychiatric clinic status does not mean that either residence operates as an emergency department, acute medical hospital, or inpatient psychiatric unit. When a client requires emergency intervention, involuntary treatment, continuous acute observation, or another form of hospital-level care, an appropriate external hospital or specialist service must be involved.

Clinical accountability

Professional standards

These institutional licenses are distinct from the professional registrations held by individual physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, and other healthcare professionals. Where regulated services form part of a client’s care, they are provided by professionals who hold the licenses, registrations, or authorizations required for their role and jurisdiction.

Professional Memberships and Affiliations

THE BALANCE distinguishes institutional licenses and accreditations from credentials or memberships held by individual professionals.

Members of the clinical team may maintain affiliations with professional organizations relevant to their respective disciplines, including:

  • Psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine
  • Psychology and psychotherapy
  • Trauma-informed and somatic practice
  • Medical specialties and integrative care

These affiliations may support continuing education, professional dialogue, and adherence to discipline-specific ethical standards. An individual membership should not be interpreted as institutional accreditation, endorsement of THE BALANCE by the organization, or evidence of a particular treatment outcome.

Therapeutic and Methodological Standards

Some therapeutic methods require specific training, supervised practice, certification, or adherence to an established professional framework.

When such methods are used, they are delivered by practitioners with training appropriate to their role and scope of practice. They are incorporated into a coordinated care plan with appropriate clinical oversight.

The selection of any therapeutic method is based on the individual’s clinical formulation, current condition, preferences, potential benefits, limitations, and safety considerations. No method is included simply because it is available, prominent, or currently popular.

Clinical Governance and Oversight

Institutional licenses, professional registrations, and verified credentials are important safeguards, but they represent only one part of responsible care.

THE BALANCE’s governance structure includes:

  • Defined clinical and organizational responsibilities
  • Suitability, safety, and risk review
  • Multidisciplinary communication and case review
  • Standards for consent, confidentiality, documentation, and safeguarding
  • Procedures for concerns, incidents, and complaints
  • Ongoing review of care quality and clinical practice

This structure supports responsible clinical decision-making, clear accountability, and appropriate coordination throughout the client’s care.

A Note on Transparency

THE BALANCE’s Zurich and Mallorca clinic licenses are institutional healthcare authorizations. They should not be confused with individual professional memberships, training certificates, or affiliations.

Healthcare regulation differs by country, profession, service, and provider. THE BALANCE does not suggest that the regulatory systems of Switzerland and Spain are identical, that a license extends beyond its approved scope, or that any license or accreditation guarantees a particular treatment outcome.

Where independent clinicians, hospitals, diagnostic services, or other external providers contribute to care, their professional responsibility and relationship to THE BALANCE remain clearly defined.
