Personer som utsätter sig för stress i stor grad riskerar att drabbas av utmattningssyndrom. Inom detta begrepp ryms symtom som sömnstörningar, ljudkänslighet, nedstämdhet och hjärtklappning. Detta är bara några av de symtom som man kan uppleva. Det är inte ovanligt att man måste sjukskrivas en tid om man har blivit drabbad.
Att inte få tillräckligt med återhämtning eller att stressen är för långvarig kan bana väg för ytterligare symtom. Det kan bland annat leda till att man drabbas av ångest eller depressioner. Dessa tillstånd kan pågå under långtid och påverkar hur man kan leva sitt liv i stor utsträckning.
Befinner man sig i en stressig period eller precis kommit ur en sådan period så är det vanligt att man känner av detta både fysiskt och psykiskt. För dessa personer är det viktigt att man hanterar stressen på rätt sätt. Ett av de vanligaste symtomen en person som är väldigt stressad uppvisar är att man är väldigt trött. Samtidigt så är det inte ovanligt att man har sömnbesvär.
Det första steget mot återhämtning är att vila och ta det lugnt. Detta är även ett råd som gäller för de som befinner sig mitt i den stressiga perioden. Om man tar sig tid till att vila och att återhämta sig, då blir effekterna av stressen betydligt mildare. Det kan vara svårt att få in detta i sitt liv. Men det är viktigt att göra.
Ett sätt är att arbeta in det som en rutin. Exempelvis kan man se till att timmarna innan läggdags varje dag är tid som man lägger på återhämtning. Detta kan ske genom att man stänger av de skärmar man vanligtvis tittar på, lägger bort eventuellt jobb och tar det lugnt. Meditation och mindfulness är något som många nämner när man diskuterar metoder de anser ha hjälpt dem.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness är ett sätt att vara närvarande i stunden, alltså i nuet och inte oroa sig på grund av det som har varit eller det som komma skall. Det kräver träning men är en effektiv metod för att bli mer lugn och dämpa den oro som många människor har.
En metod inom området är kroppsscanning. Det är en metod som många terapeuter lär ut och som hjälper en att stanna upp och vara mer i nuet. Det kan krävas ett par försök innan man blir duktig på det men därefter så brukar det vara en populär metod.
En kroppsscanning går till som så att man blundar och känner efter hur kroppen känns och vilka sensationer den upplever. Idealt ska man göra den liggandes ned. Men många har inte den möjligheten på sin arbetsplats och då kan den göras sittandes. Man sluter sina ögon och riktar sin fokus mot tårna. Hur känns tårna? Hur känns strumporna mot huden? Är det varmt eller kallt?
Där efter arbetar man sig upp genom fötterna, smalbenen, knäna och så vidare. Man fortsätter till dess att man nått sin hjässa. Tanken bakom detta är att man dels tar en paus och inte riktar sitt fokus mot sina arbetsuppgifter. Samtidigt så slappnar man automatiskt av, ja, det är inte ovanligt att man till och med somnar.
Det finns många metoder som tillämpas inom mindfullness som är effektiva när man arbetar mot den stress man upplever. En person som är utbildad inom detta har kompetensen att lära ut de olika metoderna.
Även om det i många fall räcker med att dra sig tillbaka lite från den stressiga situationen och vila, så finns det tillfällen då man behöver söka annan hjälp. Det finns terapeuter och psykologer som är specialiserade på att hjälpa de som upplever effekterna av stress. Det är inte ovanligt att man behandlar en person som är väldigt stressad genom en terapiform som kallas KBT.
KBT står för kognitiv beteendeterapi och går ut på att man ändrar en persons respons på olika fysiska och psykiska impulser. Det kan handla om att man synliggör hur man reagerar i vissa lägen. Det kan även handla om att man lär sig olika strategier som man kan använda sig av när man befinner sig i en stressig situation. Det handlar även om hur man hanterar effekterna av stressen.
I grund och botten handlar det om att acceptera att man påverkas av stressen och att man behöver agera annorlunda när det blir stressigt och efter att man utsatts för stress. Tillsammans tar terapeuten och patienten fram verktyg för personen att använda.
Vad som fungerar är högst individuellt men det finns vissa huvudsakliga verktyg. Dessa anpassas dock efter varje patient. Bland dessa verktyg finns planer kring hur man arbetar för att identifiera precis det som stressar en och hur man hanterar dessa detaljer. Det kan även handlar om att arbetar med de tankar som dyker upp i ens inre när man utsätts för stress.
Detta är bara ett par av de verktyg man kan använda sig av och oftast så är det en blandning av olika metoder som tillämpas. Det är också vanligt att man blandar KBT med exempelvis mindfulness.
Läkemedel
Man behandlar inte stress med läkemedel. Däremot kan man behandla vissa av de symtom som dyker upp med läkemedel.
Det är vanligt att man behandlas med ångestdämpande eller medicin mot depression om man har dessa symtom. Det är svårt att säga vilka läkemedel som passar bäst då symtomen som uppstår är så pass personliga. Att generalisera kring detta är inte konstruktivt. Vilka läkemedel som används, om läkemedel alls behöver användas, bestäms i samråd med psykiatriker eller läkare.
Det är viktigt att poängtera att det som är mest effektivt för att stävja stressen, det är att göra förändringar i sitt liv. Det kan handla om att man gör små förändringar som att man ser till att få mer sömn, eller att man får tid att återhämta sig. Dessa förändringar är inte så stora i stunden men de kan göra stor skillnad.
För vissa krävs dock större förändringar. Det kan handla om att byta arbetsplats eller på annat sätt göra en stor förändring i livet. Det kan tyckas svårt och ouppnåbart, men ju tidigare du börjar arbeta för denna typ av förändringar, desto tidigare blir de verklighet.
